Cloud transfers between aviaries

Back to the documentation

Looking to publish a bird so other breeders can see it? That is what Transfer listings are: the step before the transfer, the one where you find each other.

Cloud transfers hand a bird record directly from one Mis Plumas account to another. They do not replace sharing/importing a bird with a ZIP: the ZIP is a file sent through any channel, while a cloud transfer adds an offer, acceptance, history and multi-device convergence.

Before you start

  • Sender and recipient need Cloud sync enabled and an active session under Settings → Data.
  • Enable Transfers between aviaries under Settings → Modules: the setting belongs to your account and applies to all your devices. It is on by default: if Cloud or an active session is missing, Home and the transfers area invite you to connect your account, and what the app does not allow is turning the module on without the cloud (it explains why).
  • The recipient must keep “Let other breeders find me” enabled — it appears below the module and on the front page of Transfers and listings — to receive offers by breeder number. Turning it off blocks new offers and removes you from searches, without removing offers that were already pending.
  • The app verifies that the recipient has at least one device compatible with the required protocol.
  • Only an active, synced bird can be offered, provided it has no active pair, is not acting as a foster mother and has no sync conflict.

Identify the recipient

Use either:

  1. Transfer QR (recommended): when transferring the bird, the sender taps Generate transfer QR and shows it to the other breeder, who scans it with Mis Plumas, sees the bird and who is transferring it, and decides whether to receive it. The QR expires after 15 minutes and can be used once; scanning it is a voluntary act, so it works even if the recipient is not visible in searches.
  2. Breeder number: the sender types it in the recipient field. The app suggests breeders while typing —with or without the federation letters— and has a search button; only accounts with “Let other breeders find me” enabled appear. Before sending, the displayed number and aviary name are confirmed.

The breeder number and aviary name reduce mistakes, but they do not legally prove identity or ownership. Confirm them with the recipient before sending.

Send an offer

  1. Open the bird record and choose Transfer through the cloud.
  2. Optionally add a message of up to 200 characters and choose whether the record's attachments are included.
  3. Enter the recipient's breeder number and confirm, or tap Generate transfer QR and let the recipient scan it.

Until the other person accepts, the bird is still yours and stays active in your aviary. The pending offer does not change the record's status to On loan: it is a status of its own within Transfers. Keep in mind that acceptance is final: check the recipient carefully before sending.

Practical example: transfer a bird to another breeder

Ana wants to transfer a canary with ring ES-2026-001 to Luis:

  1. Both enable Cloud sync and Transfers between aviaries.
  2. Ana opens the ES-2026-001 record, taps Transfer through the cloud, chooses whether to include photos and documents, and taps Generate transfer QR.
  3. Luis scans the QR with Mis Plumas. The app shows him the bird and Ana's breeder number and asks whether he wants to receive it. He agrees and the offer lands in his Offers received.
  4. Luis reviews the record under Transfers and listings → My transfers → Offers received and accepts it, choosing the ring to use in his aviary.

If Luis is not nearby, Ana can instead type his breeder number in the recipient field, pick him from the suggestions and confirm the offer.

When complete, the bird appears Active in Luis's aviary and remains as historical Transferred in Ana's. If Luis rejects the offer or Ana cancels it before acceptance, no record changes owner.

Review, change or cancel a pending offer

Open Transfers and listings → My transfers → Offers sent. Each pending offer shows its bird, recipient, expiry date and these actions:

  • Edit offer: rebuilds the snapshot from the current bird record and lets you change the message and whether attachments are included. Bird and recipient stay fixed.
  • Cancel offer: closes it before the recipient accepts.

An offer created by QR that nobody has scanned yet appears as “Waiting for the QR to be scanned”; if the QR expires unscanned, the offer expires with it and you can generate another one.

The screen also includes the “On loan” tab, with the birds you have manually marked with that status from their record; each one opens its record directly.

While any outgoing offer is awaiting acceptance, Home shows a contextual card that opens Transfers directly. During that time the app blocks changes that would invalidate the agreement, such as changing ring/species/sex, marking the bird dead, deleting it, creating an active pair or assigning it as a foster. The offer expires automatically after 30 days if nobody resolves it.

Accept or reject a received offer

New offers appear under Offers received and create an alert when the app opens or resumes. The recipient may:

  • Reject without changing any record.
  • Accept and choose the ring in their aviary. Acceptance is the final handover and cannot be cancelled afterwards.

If the ring is already occupied, the app requires a resolution before creating another record. If a historical record of that same bird exists with the Transferred status, you can choose Reactivate the existing record: it keeps local genealogy, health, offspring, show record and attachments. A record with the Deceased status (the bird died) is never reactivated automatically.

What happens after acceptance

  • In the recipient's aviary, the bird arrives Active, without a cage or the live relationships that belonged to the previous aviary.
  • At the origin it stays as a historical Transferred record, out of its cage and hidden by default along with the other birds outside the aviary. It can be shown with the Out of the aviary (N) chip.
  • Father and mother are linked by ring only when the match is unique, compatible and does not create cycles.
  • The transfer history converges on every device of both accounts. If one of the sender's devices was offline, it is corrected when it reconnects and cannot reactivate the bird as its own.

Your transfer history

Under Transfers and listings → My transfers → History you have two lists:

  • Transferred: the birds you have transferred or donated, by hand or through the cloud. Donated birds carry the Donated label, and the ones that left through the cloud, Through the cloud.
  • Acquired: the birds you have received through the cloud and the ones with a Purchase price.

Each bird shows when it left or arrived, to or from whom, and its price if it has one. A purchase recorded only with its price shows the date you added the bird. Tapping it opens its record.

With the Address book on, the history also uses its notes: birds noted as “Transferred to”, “Given to”, “Received from” or “Bought from” appear even if they came back to your aviary, and each one takes you to its breeder's card with View in address book. If the breeder isn't there yet, Save to address book saves them from the cloud transfer, and Link breeder notes them for the rest.

If the bird comes back to your aviary

A historical record from an accepted cloud transfer does not allow Return to aviary, changing its status, cage or foster mother, or deleting it. To get the bird back, ask the recipient to transfer it back to you; when you accept, you can reactivate the historical record when it is compatible and keep its history.

If the recipient can no longer do that, the app explains the alternative: change the ring on the historical record so you can create a new record with the original ring. That does not reactivate or merge the earlier history.

Attachments and interrupted connections

If you choose to include them, the photos, videos and documents available in the record travel in a protected package and are imported with stable identities. If the connection drops, the operation can resume without duplicating the bird or leaving partial files.

The accepted structured record remains available even if the attachment package expires. Accepted attachments are retained for download for up to 90 days, so complete the download before then.

Privacy and limits

  • The breeder-number search only shows accounts with “Let other breeders find me” enabled; turning it off removes you from searches. The transfer QR does not depend on that visibility because scanning it is a voluntary act by the recipient.
  • The record, optional message and included attachments are shared only with the chosen account.
  • Health, cage and live internal relationships are not included in the transferred record.
  • The MVP supports one bird per offer. It does not include payments, contracts, chat, batch transfers or legal proof of ownership.

Species, in your language

Since version 5.6.0 the species name appears in the app's language here too: in the list of birds being transferred, when picking the bird you are about to transfer, and in the summary of a pending offer.

What travels in the transfer does not change with the language. The record the other breeder receives stores the species with its internal value, so it does not matter if you have the app in Portuguese and they have it in German: each of you sees it in your own, and the bird arrives correctly identified.

For the same reason, when you reactivate a returned bird and the app shows you which fields have changed, the comparison is made on the stored value and not on the translated one. That way differences that do not actually exist never show up.
