Advanced aviary organisation
As the aviary grows, it is not enough to know how many birds you have. You also need to know where each bird is, which cages are available, which pairs remain active and how each specimen moves between seasons.
This section brings together the advanced organisation tools.
Spaces, cages and aliases
The app organises the aviary on two levels:
- Space: physical area, room, terrace, module or hall.
- Cage: specific location inside that space.
Each cage has a physical code and can also have a decorative alias. The code is used for QR and traceability; the alias helps you recognise the cage with a friendlier name.
Physical layout
The cage layout lets you represent each space as a grid of rows and columns.
You can:
- define the grid size;
- place or drag cages into specific cells;
- move, drag or swap cages;
- leave cages in the Not placed tray;
- join two neighbouring breeding cages into an aviary cage, merge two neighbouring aviaries into a wider one, split a range aviary into breeding cages or into smaller aviaries (
V01-02intoV01andV02) and undo the last reorganisation, restoring the exact original cages; - use an automatic grid ordered by number if you have not configured the space yet;
- see merged cages occupying the space of their original cells, as a wide rectangle;
- see split cages as a single subdivided block;
- zoom in and out of each space in large aviaries.
The view shows important states: empty cage, laying, incubating, chicks, inbreeding, sick bird or several pairs.
Natural order
Cages can be sorted by number using natural order. That way C2 appears before C10, which is especially useful when you have many locations.
This order is used in lists, automatic grids and cage selectors.
Cage QR
Each cage can have its own QR code.
New QR codes carry a permanent identity: even if the cage is merged, split or the operation undone, the QR follows the chain of changes to the current living cage. Old code-based QR codes also resolve usefully:
- if the exact code exists, it opens that cage;
- if it was converted or merged into another location, it takes you to the current one;
- if there are several options (a split cage or the same code in two spaces), it asks you to choose, showing each cage's space.
Bird and pair movements
Each cage change is recorded in the history. This lets you know:
- where a bird was before;
- when it moved;
- why it moved;
- whether the movement is related to a pair or breeding season.
When you remove birds or pairs from a cage, you can move them to another compatible location or leave them as No cage.
Seasons and relocation
When separating a pair or ending a season, you can decide what to do with the male and female:
- return to previous cage;
- return to original cage;
- keep current location;
- move to a new cage;
- leave without cage.
When you choose a new cage, the app prioritises available aviaries because that is often the usual destination after breeding.
Organisation tips
- Use stable cage codes:
C1,C2,V1,Quarantine. - Use aliases for human-friendly names, not to replace the physical code.
- Configure the physical layout if you have many cages or several spaces.
- Check empty cages before forming new pairs.
- Keep movement history clean: it helps a lot when ending the season.
