Getting started and finding your birds
Do I need an account or a connection to run my aviary?
You do not need an account to use the mobile app in local mode. You can record birds, pairs, clutches and the rest of your data offline. The account is for syncing devices, using Mis Plumas Web and the transfer and listing services. Google Drive and Google Calendar are linked separately.
Is there a limit on how many birds I can record?
The app sets no maximum number of birds. The size of your photos, videos and documents does count towards the storage available on the device and, if you use the cloud, towards its attachment limits. See Cloud sync.
The app says the ring already exists, but I cannot find the bird
Tap View bird in the warning to open the existing record. You can also go to My Birds, clear the search and the filters, and turn on Out of the aviary (N): it may be a transferred, donated, lost or deceased record that was hidden.
The ring must be unique; typing it with different capitalisation or with spaces at the start or end does not create a different identity. Correct the existing record if it is the same bird.
Why does the bird total not match males plus females?
You are missing the Unsexed birds. Home shows all three groups: males, females and unsexed. Tapping each count lets you review its birds. If you are comparing devices, also check the filters and the option to hide birds that are out of the aviary. The historical summary may include birds that are no longer with you.
What do I enter if I do not know the sex or the date of birth yet?
When adding a bird you have to choose the sex; you can explicitly select Unsexed and correct it later. The date of birth is optional: if you leave it blank, the app works out an approximate age from the bird's year. The ring year and the actual date of birth can differ.
Can I record several similar birds without filling everything in again?
Yes: on one bird's record, use Duplicate bird. A new bird form opens with the shared details, but you must enter its own ring and review sex, cage, status and family. Photos, treatments, pairs and offspring are not copied. See Duplicating a bird.
Should I delete a bird when it dies, gets lost or I hand it over?
To keep its history, change the status instead: Deceased, Lost, Transferred or Donated, depending on what happened, and note the date if you know it. The record keeps its genealogy and history and stops taking up a cage. If you delete a bird that is the sire or dam of others, the app warns you: it disappears from its offspring's genealogy and, with the cloud, it is lost on all your devices once the Trash is emptied. The same warning offers Manage status and health, to change its status instead of deleting it. On loan means the bird is still with you and available; it is not a departure from the aviary.
I cannot see Address book, Nests or Inventory in the menu
They are optional modules. Turn them on under Settings → Modules. Turning them off hides their screens without deleting their records. The address book is not available in the browser yet. Transfers between accounts also require a cloud session.
Pairs, eggs and chicks
I have recorded a bird, but I cannot choose it when forming a pair
Search by ring or name and check its sex and status. Birds that are still in the aviary, including those On loan, can appear as candidates. Unsexed birds appear in both pickers: when you choose one, the app asks you to confirm the sex it will save on its record.
Females that are already taken are shown dimmed, with their active pair, and cannot be selected until that pair is separated. If you are on an old version, update: unsexed birds and taken females used to be hidden. You do not need to add the bird again.
Can I use the same male with several females?
Yes. A male can be in several active pairs; the app tells you how many he has. Each female can only be in one active pair. To give her a different male, separate her previous pair first. Its clutches stay in the history.
Does the app block a pair because of inbreeding or a risky cross?
The warnings are informational and do not stop you from saving. Review the parents' data and the kinship before continuing. The app can only detect what it knows from the family tree and the recorded factors; the absence of a warning does not prove the cross is risk-free. See Inbreeding and kinship.
I have added the eggs and no hatching date appears
Adding eggs does not start incubation. In the clutch, set Incubation start to the date it really began. The forecast uses the species' incubation days and your custom settings. Do not confuse the date of the first egg with the start of incubation.
Are the fertility and ringing alerts always on the same days?
No. They can be configured in general and per species under Settings → Notifications. The fertility alert counts from the incubation start; the ringing alert, from the actual hatching date. They are reminders based on your settings, not an automatic check of how the egg or the chick is developing.
Why does a pair show as incubating and with chicks at the same time?
The states are worked out from its clutches. There may be chicks already hatched and eggs still pending, or several clutches in different situations. The counters are not mutually exclusive groups: the same pair can be in more than one.
Does marking the whole clutch as hatched also change the clear eggs?
No. Hatching the whole clutch at once respects the eggs marked as clear, aborted or broken. Record each real outcome: failed eggs stay in the history and count in the statistics. After hatching, the actual date of birth is kept.
When does the chick appear in My Birds?
Marking it Hatched records the birth within the clutch. When you ring it and save its ring, the chick's record is created, initially unsexed, with its biological parents. Follow that flow to keep the link with the egg and avoid a second record for the same bird.
Can I wean chicks before I have created their aviary?
Yes. When weaning you can choose No Cage, both for a single chick and for the whole clutch. Then you give them the right location. Being without a cage does not delete their record or their genealogy.
Why is the clutch still open if every chick has hatched?
Hatching or ringing does not finish the clutch. It counts as finished when all its eggs or chicks are independent or have a final outcome: clear, aborted, broken or deceased. Check whether any ringed chick is still waiting to be weaned.
How do I close the season without losing the clutches?
In Pairs, use End breeding season; for a single pair, Separate pair. The pairs are archived with their clutches and you can choose where the birds go. Clutches in progress are skipped by default when closing the season. See Breeding seasons.
Can I already start next year's season?
Yes. When you use End breeding season, choose the following year in Season year: whatever is laid from then on counts towards that year in the statistics. If the new season was already opened with another year when you closed, change the year of that new season from the list of seasons with Change the year. See Breeding seasons.
How do I start the pairs for the next season?
First end the current season: in Pairs, End breeding season, with Open a new season on. Then form the new pairs with New Pair. If you form them before, they are closed with the others. See Starting the next season.
I created a pair by mistake: do I separate it or delete it?
If it has no clutches, you can delete it from its detail or from a bird's pair history. It disappears from the history of both members. If it already has clutches, the app protects that data and offers to separate it so the history is kept.
Foster mothers, nests and cages
Does a foster mother become the chicks' mother?
No. Assigning a foster bird or a foster pair changes who raises the clutch, but keeps the biological parents. The same happens when you send eggs to an incubator or move the clutch to another pair. See Assisted breeding.
Can I split a clutch between several foster mothers?
Yes. You can assign a general foster and an individual one for particular eggs or chicks. The individual one takes priority over the general one. At each level you choose a foster bird or a foster pair. If it already has other young, the app shows its load and warns you, but does not block the assignment.
Why does the foster mother disappear when I send an egg to the incubator?
An egg cannot be with a foster and inside a machine at the same time. Sending it to the incubator clears its foster assignment. If it is going back to a foster later, take it out of the incubator and check the assignment. Its biological parents stay the same.
I have several pairs in one aviary: how do I tell their nest boxes apart?
Turn on Nests under Settings → Modules. Each cage has its own numbers: for example, V01/N1 and V01/N2. You can add an alias and assign each box to a pair or a hen. With the module on, an aviary accepts several active pairs. See Nests.
Can I record a clutch if I do not know who the father is?
Yes, since 6.2.0. On the hen's record, under Clutches with unknown father, tap Record a clutch with unknown father; if you use Nests, you can also do it from her nest by choosing Unknown father. The clutch is recorded with the mother only and the chicks will have no father. Do not invent a father just to complete the form. See Clutches with unknown father.
I have taken all the eggs out of the nest: how do I free it?
Use Release nest if the clutch is no longer physically there. It keeps the eggs, genealogy and tracking. Occupy the nest again lets you correct it as long as the clutch is still alive and the nest can hold it. You do not need to delete the clutch to reuse the box.
Can I merge two aviaries without setting up the grid?
Yes. In the Cages list, Merge aviaries offers others in the same space with consecutive numbering, such as V27 and V28. If both are unplaced, the result stays unplaced too. If both are on the grid, they must be adjacent and compatible; if only one is placed, you will first have to sort it out in the editor.
Why can't I delete or reorganise a cage?
A cage occupied by birds or active pairs cannot be deleted. An active pair can also prevent a conversion; if there are only single birds, the app lets you choose where they go. Nests with a clutch in progress add their own checks. Read the reason in the warning before moving or closing records. See Cages and spaces.
Do I have to reprint the QR after changing the alias or merging cages?
New cage QR codes carry a permanent identity and follow their reorganisations. Changing the alias does not require reprinting. Older code-based QR codes also try to find the current location; if there are several candidates, the app asks you to choose. A nest's QR identifies the box even if its number or cage changes.
I have a split aviary (V27A and V27B): how do I turn it into breeding cages?
Use the group button, Convert to breeding cages. With Keep divisions on, V27A and V27B become C27A and C27B, each in its place and with its bird; with it off, the group becomes a single C27.
Before 6.4.0, keeping the divisions gave the error “Could not generate the destination code”. On an earlier version, turn Keep divisions off and then split C27 with Split cage. See Cages and spaces.
Genetics and kinship
I think a bird is a carrier, but it is not confirmed: how do I record it?
In the Carrier of selector, select the mutation and turn on Possible in its row. That keeps it separate from the confirmed carriers, and it is shown as possible on the record and in the documents that support it. If you confirm it later, turn Possible off.
The mark is available in the general carriers selector, in the Gouldian finch's by-zone editor and in the roseicollis genotype editor, under each locus when you choose a carrier (see Possible carriers).
Does the calculator count possible carriers?
No. It uses the confirmed carriers and warns you about the possible ones it has left out. If you want to explore the hypothesis, set up a manual simulation and compare the results without turning the suspicion into confirmed data on the record.
Why is a mutation not offered as a carrier for a female?
The list is filtered by species, sex and inheritance in the catalogue. Sex-linked recessive mutations are not offered as hidden carriers for females. Dominant factors and mutations you have already marked as visible are not offered as carriers either. Changing the sex or the species rechecks those compatibilities.
I cannot find a mutation I know exists
Check the species first. The search recognises the catalogue names and synonyms, and you do not have to type accents. If it is missing, use Can't find the mutation? in the form: it prepares a message with the context so we can look into it.
I cannot find my species in the catalogue
Try another name: the search recognises the scientific name and the names breeders know it by, and you do not have to type accents. If it really is missing, the species picker has Can't find the species?: tell us which one it is and we will add it in an upcoming version.
Why do I see Ashen Fallow, Bronze Fallow and Fallow (unspecified) in cockatiels?
The app records ashen and bronze separately. Fallow (unspecified) lets you keep an old or incomplete record without guessing which one it is. If you know the specific mutation, edit the record and select it. See Genetics by species.
If I change the language, do I lose the species or the mutations?
No. The displayed name changes, not the stored identity. If a name does not match the one you use in your language, the genetics panel offers Is this not the name you use in your language? when the app is in a language other than Spanish.
Does a 25% result mean one chick in four will come out like that?
No. It is a probability for the cross based on the data entered, not a guaranteed split per clutch. Check the species, sex, mutations and carriers of both parents before reading the result.
Why do two hybrids with the same percentage have a different generation?
The generation depends on the lineage. An F1 and an F2 can have the same theoretical blood share: F1 × F1 gives F2, not another F1. Back-crosses follow their own series, and the breeding target does not change the ancestry by itself. If a generation shows as estimated, review and confirm the lineage. See Hybridisation and fertility.
My hybrid does not show a mutation from one of its parent species
Check that the cross and its parent species are properly defined. Hybrids use the combined catalogue of both parent species when the app can resolve them; you do not need to change the bird to a pure species to record its genetics. If it is still missing, use the mutation proposal and mention the cross.
I bought two sisters without knowing their parents: can I link them?
Yes. Record both and, in the genealogy section of one record, open Add relationship or Manage relationships. Declare the sibling relationship, stating whether you know which parents they share. There is no need to create made-up parents. The app shows the relationship as declared and can warn about it, but it does not invent an inbreeding percentage without the necessary family tree.
Data, backups and switching phones
Are the Mis Plumas cloud, Google Drive and Google Calendar the same thing?
| Service | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Cloud sync | Keeping your aviary up to date across the devices of the same account. Changes and deletions travel too. |
| Google Drive | Saving and restoring backups of the aviary. It uses the Google account you link. |
| Google Calendar | Seeing the event types you choose outside the app. It does not store a copy of the aviary. |
Turning one on does not turn on the others. Sync is not a substitute for a backup you can keep and restore.
Can I move my data from the old phone to the new one if I use local mode?
Yes:
- On the old phone, open Settings → Backup.
- Use Export Data and leave Include attachments on if you want to bring photos, videos and documents.
- Save the ZIP off the phone and move it to the new one.
- Install Mis Plumas and restore the ZIP from the backups screen.
- Check birds, pairs, clutches, address book and attachments before wiping the old phone.
Restoring replaces the current data on the destination phone. If it already had information, make a backup of that phone first too.
What if I would rather do it with Google Drive?
On the old phone, link Google Drive under Settings → Backup and tap Back Up to Cloud. Wait for it to finish. On the new phone, link the same Google account and use Restore from Cloud. Check that the date of the backup is the one you expected.
I already use sync: do I have to restore a backup to add the tablet?
For the synced data, all you need is to let the main device finish syncing, sign in with the same Mis Plumas account on the new one and choose Download my data when it is offered. Check that the attachments have been downloaded too.
Since 6.2.0 the breeder address book travels with the cloud like everything else. Without the cloud, you need a full backup; restoring it has the replacing effect described in Cloud sync; it is not a stand-alone import of contacts.
I cannot use the old phone: can I still recover the data?
It depends on what had been saved before:
- If the aviary had been synced, sign in to the same account on the new device and download what is in the cloud.
- If you had a backup on Google Drive, restore it with the same Google account.
- If you keep a full ZIP or an older compatible
.sqlitebackup, restore it from the backups screen. - If there was only local data and you have no backup, you need to regain access to the old phone to export it.
The cloud can only give back what was uploaded (the address book, since 6.2.0). If there is no backup, no earlier sync and no access to the phone, the app cannot rebuild the data. Do not uninstall or reset the old phone before checking your recovery options.
Does a CSV, an Excel file or a PDF keep everything needed to recover the app?
No. The full ZIP backup keeps the database —including the address book—, the restorable preferences and the attachments if you include them. CSV/Excel exports cover the aviary tables, but they do not include the private address book or the photo and document files. PDFs are reports to read or share, not restorable backups.
Can I import an Excel file from another app or my own notebook?
Aviary import expects the Mis Plumas format, with its tables and relationships. It does not recognise just any spreadsheet or PDF from another app. Keep the original and ask through Contact if you need to prepare a conversion; conversions done for specific cases are not a universal importer inside the app.
Does importing a single bird replace my whole aviary?
No. Import bird, from the bird list, adds one record after checking the ring. Import aviary (CSV/Excel) and restoring a full backup replace the data on the device. Check which operation the confirmation mentions before accepting it. See Imports and exports.
I deleted a bird by mistake: is there a way to get it back?
With sync on, check Cloud sync → Trash: deleted records are kept for 30 days. Restoring a bird also brings back the history that was removed with it; restoring a clutch brings back its eggs. In local mode there is no such trash to rely on: the way back is an earlier backup, bearing in mind that restoring it replaces data.
Sync and account
A device is missing birds, cages or pairs: what do I check first?
- Make sure both use the same account and an up-to-date version.
- Clear the list filters and check the hidden birds that are out of the aviary.
- Open Cloud sync and check the session, the connection and that the Aviary data category is on in What gets synced.
- If there is a Cloud paused notice, resolve the pending decision.
- Tap Sync now first on the device with the changes and then on the other one. That action also requests a check against the cloud.
- If it persists, look at Sync status and its last error before deciding on a full upload.
A missing record does not, on its own, prove it was never uploaded. If you need help, tell us which device has the correct information and the error code.
The photos are not showing up on my other device
Check whether the bird's record is missing too. If it is, follow the steps in the previous question first. If the record is complete, check Photos, videos and documents, the Wi-Fi connection and the pending or failed attachments in Sync status.
On the device that still has the file, let the upload finish; then sync the receiving device. If the original photo is no longer on any of them, you will need a backup that included it. A backup without attachments cannot rebuild it.
Are photos uploaded over mobile data?
By default, attachments only travel over Wi-Fi. The aviary management data can sync over mobile data. You can change Attachments on Wi-Fi only on each device.
What is the difference between merging, The cloud wins and Replace the cloud?
| Option | Result |
|---|---|
| Merge with the cloud | Sends the local data and receives the account's data. Useful for complementary data; it can create duplicates if they are copies of the same aviary with different identities. |
| The cloud wins | Replaces this device's aviary data —the address book too— with the account's. |
| Replace the cloud | Makes this device's aviary the reference for the account and the other devices. Whatever only the others had stops being part of the active aviary and may end up in their trash. |
The app offers the options that fit what it finds. Choose The cloud wins only once you have checked that the account holds the aviary you want to keep. Before replacing, keep a full backup with attachments of the devices that hold important data: the automatic backup made before uploading or replacing the cloud does not include every attachment; the one made before replacing the local aviary does.
What is Upload my full aviary… for?
It lets you review how to bring every record on this device into the account. It is not the first step for any missing photo. Use it if, after checking the status and syncing, you need to decide which aviary should be kept. Read the summary of the options and any duplicate warning before continuing.
I restored a backup and Cloud paused appears
That is expected: restoring a backup or importing an aviary changes this device and leaves sync waiting for your decision. On the cloud screen you can choose Replace the cloud with what you restored or The cloud wins to go back to the account's aviary. Merging is not offered in this case, because it could undo the restore.
Before choosing, check that the restore finished and which data you want to keep. If it ended up incomplete, repeat it first. The address book from the backup follows the same rule: it is uploaded if you choose Replace the cloud.
Does it sync with the app closed?
Aviary changes sync when you open or resume the app, after local changes and periodically while the app is open. Do not expect a closed app to keep checking. Alerts already scheduled on the device and automatic backups work through different mechanisms.
Why does the tablet's language change, but not its text size?
Language, currency and account preferences travel if you have their sync turned on. Theme, palette, text size, high contrast and animations are set per device. Also local are the active filters in My Birds, permissions, Google connections and the Wi-Fi policy for attachments.
Why is my address book empty on the other device when everything else shows up?
The address book syncs since 6.2.0. If the other device has an earlier version, it does not receive it: update the app on both, and the first sync uploads the address book each of them had. Mis Plumas Web does not show it yet. See Breeder address book.
Can I change the email I use to sign in to my account?
Yes. In Cloud sync, tap Change account email, enter the new email and your PIN, and confirm with the code sent to the new address. No code from the old email is required. After the change, your other devices have to sign in again.
The contact email for listings is managed in the advertiser profile: editing it is not the same as changing the email you sign in with. See Your account.
The app asks me to update to sync: have I lost my data?
No. That notice means the cloud requires a more recent version. Local data stays on the device. Update the app and sync again; do not delete the aviary or restore an old backup to clear a version notice.
What information helps when asking for help with sync?
Give your account identifier, the affected devices, the version on each one, what information differs and the code shown in Sync status. Devices also send a diagnostic with codes and counts, without bird names or rings. You never need to send your PIN or recovery codes through the contact form.
On the web I enter my PIN and it doesn't let me in, or my aviary doesn't appear
Wait a minute: after many attempts in a row, the server slows sign-ins down for a while. Then sign in just once and let it load. If your aviary doesn't appear, clear the site data for app.misplumas.es in your browser, or open a private window, and sign in again: the web downloads everything from the cloud again, and what is already in the cloud isn't lost. If it keeps happening, write to us from the contact page on the website with your breeder code.
Transfers, listings and address book
Does marking a bird On loan publish it automatically?
No. The app may offer to publish it, but you can choose Not now and keep it as a private note. A listing lets others find the bird; a cloud transfer is an offer addressed to one specific account. See Transfer listings and Cloud transfers.
Why can't I transfer a bird through the cloud?
Check the requirements the app shows: account and module active, the bird synced and eligible for transfer, no active pair, not acting as a foster and no sync conflict. The recipient needs a compatible account. Finding them by search depends on whether they allow it; the transfer QR allows a voluntary acceptance even if they do not appear in searches.
Do not mark the bird as Transferred before sending the offer: the cloud transfer makes that change when the recipient accepts.
Can I cancel a transfer or change what I sent?
While it is pending, from Offers sent you can change the message and whether attachments are included, refresh the snapshot of the record or cancel. The bird and the recipient cannot be changed in that offer. Once accepted, it cannot be cancelled: to give the bird back, a return transfer is needed.
A bird I transferred through the cloud is coming back to me: do I use Return to aviary?
The historical record of an accepted cloud transfer is protected: you cannot reactivate it, change its status, cage or foster, or delete it. Ask the other breeder to transfer it back to you. When you receive it, the app may offer Reactivate the existing record so you keep your history of the bird.
If they can no longer make that return from their account, the notice on the record explains the alternative: change the ring on the historical record to free the original one and add the bird again. They are two separate records; that alternative does not reactivate the earlier history.
Can I list a pair or a group? Are they transferred together?
You can list a pair or a group of up to 12 birds of the same species. The group price belongs to the listing and does not change the individual prices. A cloud transfer is still one bird per offer: listing a group does not create a joint transfer. If one member stops being on loan, the group listing is withdrawn.
I sent the listing link and the record does not show on the public website
The shared link opens the listing in Mis Plumas or explains how to download the app. The public page behind the link does not show the bird or your details: the board is browsed inside the app with an account. If you cannot find a listing inside the app, also check the country, species and format filters.
Can the other breeder see my address book notes and stars?
No. Your rating and your address book notes are private: only you see them, on your devices. Reputation on the board is a different feature: a public rating of a transfer that was received and accepted. Saving someone in the address book or rating them there does not publish a review.
Are the birds with that breeder's ring the ones I bought from them?
Not necessarily. The ring code identifies the breeder who ringed the bird. To note who you bought a bird from or handed it to, use the origin when adding it or the links with the address book. That way you can tell the breeder of origin apart from the person you dealt with.
Where can I see the birds I've transferred or acquired?
Under Transfers and listings → My transfers → History. Transferred lists the birds you have transferred or donated, by hand or through the cloud, and donated ones carry the Donated label. Acquired lists the ones you received through the cloud and the ones with a Purchase price. Each one shows when it left or arrived, to or from whom, and its price. Dead and lost birds don't appear.
With the Address book on, its notes count too (“Transferred to”, “Given to”, “Received from” and “Bought from”), and each bird takes you to its breeder's card. On a version before 6.4.0, filter My Birds by the Transferred status. See Cloud transfers.
Alerts, health and inventory
I can see the events in the calendar, but no notifications arrive
Check that notifications for Mis Plumas are enabled both in the app and in the phone settings, that the alert type is enabled and that the dates and time are correct. On Android, also check battery restrictions if alerts arrive late. Open the app so it reschedules the alerts.
The internal calendar and Google Calendar do not replace the system permission. The browser does not schedule the phone's local alerts. See Common mistakes.
Can I schedule a treatment for the first Saturday of every month?
Yes. In schedule-based treatments in Health, the repeat can be by interval or by weekday of the month, such as the first Saturday or the last Sunday. You can also choose Do not repeat for a single cycle, and run schedules at the same time or one after another. See Health.
How do I schedule a treatment alternating medication and rest days?
Use sequential mode via Health → Create treatment:
- Under How to apply the schedules, select One after another.
- Under Repeat, leave Do not repeat selected if the routine ends after the planned cycle.
- Use the Add schedule button to enter each phase in order. For rest periods, write
Rest(orClean water/Probiotic) in the product field and set the pause duration in days. - Tap Save.
The app chains all dates automatically, sends daily notifications for each active stage and marks the treatment as Finished once the final stage is complete. See Practical cases.
Do I have to finish a treatment by hand once it is over?
Finite treatments stay active through their last day and are finished automatically the next day when the app checks their status. You can use Finish to close them earlier. Paused treatments and recurring plans with no end date do not close on their own.
Does recording a treatment deduct product every day?
No. If you choose Deduct from inventory, the amount you enter is deducted when you save the new treatment. Editing it does not deduct again, and the reminders do not use up stock each day. For later consumption, tap Use and record the real amount.
How do I give egg food to the chicks from day 7?
With a Feeding plan for chicks by age. In Health → Feeding, tap New plan:
- In What do you start with?, choose Egg food. Give it a name, for example
Egg food with pigments, and note in What's in it what you put in it. - In Who and when, tap Add group, choose Chicks by age and enter
7in From day. If you want it to stop at a certain age, also fill in Up to day (optional); if not, it reaches them until their breeding season ends. - Leave Remind when it starts on and save.
On the day the oldest chick of each clutch turns 7 days old, the daily alert says “7-day-old chicks: Egg food with pigments”, and before that the clutch announces it under Chick feeding. Hatching day is day 0. See Feeding.
Why does a bird get two seed mixes at once?
Because plans add up. If the bird falls into two plans of the same type on the same day —for example, one for the Whole aviary and another for its cage—, it gets both. The app does not prevent it, but warns you in Due today and in the plan's Preview. To see where each one comes from, tap the plan in the Feeding row of its record: Why it gets it tells you (“Because it's in cage C05”, its pair, its age…). If one is too many, adjust its Who and when —with a Sex or Species filter, or other phases— or pause the plan.
Do I need to load all my old purchases to start the inventory?
No. You can record the stock you have now in batches with their quantity and expiry date. Later purchases are added separately. When you use a product, the app deducts from the batch closest to expiry first; a product without a date does not trigger an expiry alert. See Inventory.
Do the Light plan or the Incubator control my devices?
No. They are for recording plans, parameters, tasks and reminders. The Light plan reminds you to adjust the timer; the Incubator keeps track of the machines and the eggs. You make the physical adjustments to lights, temperature or humidity on your own equipment.
PDFs, photos and aviary value
The PDF looks small: how do I zoom in?
In the preview you can zoom each page with two fingers or a double tap, and move around it. From the same screen you can share, print or save. If you do not have those gestures, check that the app is up to date.
Can I choose the photos in the PDF record? Does the date of birth appear?
When you generate View PDF sheet you can choose no photos, the profile photo or all of them. The date of birth appears if you have recorded it; it is also included in the genealogy PDF. Age is not printed as a permanent detail because it changes over time.
The photo looks cropped in the list: have I lost part of the image?
No. The round thumbnail and the header use a visual crop. Adjust the framing of the profile photo from the record: the original is still among your photos and you can open it in full. The framing syncs to your other devices.
Can the attachment diagnostics recover any lost photo?
No. They find and relink files that still exist on the device; they cannot rebuild deleted files. If the attachment is in the cloud, check its download; if it was only in a backup, you need one that included that file. See Photo and attachment diagnostics.
Can I calculate the total estimated economic value of my aviary?
Yes. Every bird has an Estimated value field and the app automatically totals the values of all birds currently in your aviary.
To view the total, go to Home → Aviary summary → Aviary value:
- You will see the total value, average value, breakdown by species, how many birds are valued and how many remain unvalued, along with a monthly growth chart.
- To value an individual bird, tap ⋮ → Estimated value from its record.
- To value many birds at once, tap Value birds on that same screen (with the option “Only birds without a value” to bulk-value pending ones).
- If a bird has no estimated value but has a purchase price, the app uses that price. Unvalued birds do not add to the total.
- This value reflects your aviary's assets and does not create movements in Expenses and income. See The value of your aviary.
I have priced my birds and the balance does not change
The Estimated value measures what the birds are worth, without creating expenses or income. The purchase and sale prices can offer an accounting entry, which you must confirm. Sale income belongs to a transferred bird; just putting it on loan does not record a sale. See Expenses and income.
Why does the value of previous months change when I value a bird?
The chart rebuilds each month's population with the current values. It shows how the aviary has evolved at today's prices; it does not keep a series of historical valuations. Birds without an estimated value use the purchase price if there is one; otherwise they appear as unvalued.
